Weed Control
**Please note: Nuisance weeds, like dandelions, are not covered by the Weed Control Act.
Maintaining Proper Grass Height
In order to reduce mice and other rodent populations, property owners are required to keep weeds and grass mowed tono taller than 10 cm.Controlling Weeds
There are many effective methods to control weeds:
- Cutting of weeds before they go to seed, with mowers or weed-eaters.
- Cutting down the plants will kill them in a couple of years.
- Pulling the weeds out of the ground by hand to control small numbers.
- Spraying weeds after consulting with your local greenhouse to learn about eco-friendly products and proper application methods.
- The City of Leduc sets standards for keeping yards tidy through the Community Standards Bylaw.
Enforcing Weed Regulations
The Government of Alberta regulates the spread of noxious weeds and prohibited noxious weeds through the Weed Control Act. The Weed Control act was recently updated to increase the number of weeds that you must control.
The City of Leduc Peace Officers patrol neighbourhoods looking for noxious and prohibited noxious weeds on private and public property. Officers also respond to public complaints.
