Pet Licences

Animal LicenceThe City of Leduc requires licencing of all dogs and cats starting six months of age. Failure to purchase a pet licence will result in a bylaw violation. The Animal Licencing and Control bylaw fine is $50.00 for the first offence.

A seized animal will not be released until all licencing fines are paid in full. Fine payments are accepted at the Blackgold Kennels and must be cash. All licenced pets are required to wear a collar and tag. To purchase your pet licence please fill out the pet licence application form.

 Lifetime pet licencing fees  
 Spayed or neutered cat or dog         $50.00
 Unneutered cat or dog    $100.00
 Spayed or neutered *restricted dog    $100.00
 Replacement licence tag                       $5.00

 

*Resricted dog licences must be renewed annually with proof of adequate insurance.
A restricted dog is one that:

  • has chased, attacked or bitten any person or animal causing injury and resulting in conviction 
  • has been made the subject of an order under the Dangerous Dogs Act
  • has chased, attacked or bitten any person or animal on more than one occasion, with or without causing physical harm or injury, and resulting in separate convictions under this Bylaw or any predecessor Bylaw.

How to pay?

Pay for your pet licence by mail or at the Civic Centre. Payments can be made by cash or cheque. Credit card and debit card services are available.

What to do if your pet is lost?

You should call the Enforcement Services office at 780.980-7200, then press '5'. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. If you call on a weekend or a holiday please leave a voicemail message. Messages are monitored on a regular basis and your call will be processed as soon as possible. You may also call:

If you have found a lost pet wearing a City of Leduc tag, you can search for the owner's name and phone number by visiting our online pet search, or by calling Enforcement Services at 780.980.7200, then press '5'. All pet owners are permitted to own a maximum 3 dogs or 3 restricted dogs and 3 cats within the city limits. Contact the Finance department of you no longer own a pet at 780.980.7106 or contact us via email at receivables@leduc.ca.

Dog owners are required by the animal licencing & control bylaw to immediately remove any defecation left by their dog(s). Contact 780.980.7200, then press '5' if you have questions or concerns.
