How do I check for water leaks?

The toilets in your home could be causing your consumption to increase if they are not functioning properly. To check for a leaking toilet place a few drops of regular food colouring in the toilet tank. Do not flush the toilet. If after a few hours the food colouring shows in the toilet bowl, you have a leak that should be repaired as soon as possible. If your taps are leaking, a stream of water 1/32 of an inch uses 25 gallons in 24 hours, over two months this could really add up. Even a leak this small would add approximately $10.00 to your utility bill.

In order to discontinue your utility service a form must be completed, signed and submitted. This form can be faxed to us at 780.980.7127 or emailed to utilities@leduc.ca or delivered in person. This should be done five days prior to terminating your utility account. You are responsible for charges up to the date of termination.

How do I conduct a water meter test at home?

1. This test is conducted over a 30 minute period, during which no water is being used on the property.
2. Find your water meter, which is normally near the hot water heater.
3. Write down the numbers indicated on the meter at the start of this test.
4. Return to check the meter reading after 30 minutes have passed.
5. If the numbers have not changed, you do not have a leak in your pressurized water system.

If the numbers have changed, continue with the following steps

6. Shut off the valves under all toilets in the house, and repeat steps 1-4
7. If the numbers have not changed, you may have a running toilet that should be serviced.
