Permits
The city requires the issuance of a development permit prior to the start of any development. This includes new buildings, additions, change in use or intensity of use of land or buildings, signage on buildings or on private land.
The land use bylaw outlines the type of development permitted in each land use district and the subsequent rules and regulations.
By obtaining a development permit, you have assurance that your development complies with the rules and regulations of the land use bylaw. In addition, if you require a letter respecting compliance you will know that the improvements on your property have the proper permits in place.
Not all proposed development requires the issuance of a development permit. Smaller sheds, fences and some decks may be exempt from a development permit. Contact the planning and development department to find out if your development(s) require a permit. Click here for information on special events permits.
