Snow Removal in Leduc

Snow removal standards in the City of Leduc are one of the highest in Alberta. Well-equipped snow-clearing crews are deployed at the onset of major snowfalls to clear one temporary, pathway down the middle of every street in the city for emergency access.

Leduc is also one of few communities in the region that still removes snow after it is bladed into windrows.  And Leduc’s Public Services department (780 980-7108) personally helps disabled or elderly residents who are physically unable to clear snow  pushed onto driveways and sidewalks by a grader.

Moreover, Leduc never uses salt on residential roads. This prevents contamination of storm ponds and is more environmentally-friendly to lawns, trees and sidewalks. Instead, finely crushed rock is used across the city as it is environmentally benign with far superior traction than sand for both cars and pedestrians. As well, dry sand is available for free at five locations (i.e. Alexandra Arena parking lot, Leduc Recreation Centre west parking lot, Aileen Fahler Park parking lot, Recycling depot and Kinsmen Park) for any citizens who want to neutralize ice.

Reminder - Remove Obstructions From Your Curb:

Driveway curb ramps (rubber, metal or any other material), portable basketball nets and any other materials must be removed for the winter. Curb ramps and other items interfere with snow clearing operations and could result in the following:

  • Destruction of the ramp or other personal property
  • Expensive equipment damage
  • Delays in snow removal operations
  • Injury to the public and/or equipment operators

Please note that all ramps will be desposed of if found in the gutter.
