44th Street Closure
On Dec. 1, 2021, a road closure was put in place in the South Telford neighbourhood to restrict access to Lede Park at the corner of 44th Street and 47th Avenue. The road closure is intended to improve community safety by reducing the number of large vehicles and overall traffic volume on these residential streets.
Temporary barricades are being used to block regular vehicle access but can be moved, as required, for emergency vehicles or community events by special request through the permit process (email events_bookings@leduc.ca or phone 780-980-7118). Amenities at South Telford are accessible from Black Gold Drive using Lede Road and 48th Avenue. Stageworks Academy is still accessible from 44th Street.
This decision was made by Leduc City Council on Nov. 8, 2021, with a commitment that the Leduc Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC) would provide an update on the closure in late 2022.
After a TAC update to Leduc City Council on Oct. 24, 2022, City Administration was directed collect information from those residents living on 47th Avenue to better understand if the road closure has contributed to their sense of safety.
Next steps and key dates
- Early 2023: City Administration will collect information from residents living on 47th Avenue through an appropriate mechanism and report findings to TAC.
