What is Esports?

Esports are a virtual way for participants to compete against other players for video and computer games. Esports is a form of sport competition using video games. It consists of individuals or teams of people games together while providing social wellness, interacting real time with one another through chat platforms, mics, headsets.  There are no physical requirements for Esports other than fast reflex and hand eye coordination.

Call of Duty - Warzone

A first-person shooter, set in the Call of Duty universe, in which players will engage in multiplayer battle royale skirmishes. Players assume the roles of soldiers or freedom fighters battling to be the last man standing or to earn the most money via scavenging and performing objectives. A violent and realistic game, calls for caution to players under the age of 17. 
 
Prizes for the top 3 teams.
Rated M (Blood and Gore, Suggestive Themes, Strong Language, Use of Drugs, Intense Violence).  Youth 14 – 17.
All ages welcome with parental consent.  Parental consent is required and can be confirmed by emailing leisureservices@leduc.ca or by phone at 780- 980-8406.
Registration is FREE for youth aged 12 - 17 - City of Leduc and Leduc County residents only. Contact leisureservices@leduc.ca to see if you are eligible.

Fortnite

Is a survival game that pits players against each other in player-versus-player combat. The last team, duo or squad standing is the winner. It's fast paced, action packed game where strategic thinking is a must in order to survive.

Rated T - Teen, violence. Youth 12 - 17 years of age.

League of Legends

League of Legends is a multiplayer strategy game in which players assume the role of magical “summoners” who settle political disputes with arena-based battles. From a 3/4–overhead perspective, players control animal- and human-like warriors who use swords, arrows, guns, and magic attacks to kill opponents' minions in melee-style combat. Higher kill counts result in additional achievements (e.g., “leveling up”).
 
Prizes for the top 3 teams.
Rated T - Teen, Blood, Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco).  Youth 12 - 17 years of age.
Registration is FREE for youth aged 12 - 17 - City of Leduc and Leduc County residents only. Contact leisureservices@leduc.ca to see if you are eligible.
For individuals not residing in City of Leduc or Leduc County, a $15 Registration Fee applies.

A tactical first-person shooter with a big focus on competitive multiplayer.
Rated M - Mature Audience Advised.

Rocket League FAQ


Sea of Thieves

This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a pirate exploring a vast open world of oceans and islands. From a first-person perspective, players sail ships, search for treasure, and engage in sea battles with rivals. On land, players can shoot and slash at skeleton-like creatures; enemies generally disappear with a wisp of smoke. At sea, players can shoot cannons at opposing ships, causing them to capsize and sink. The Arena is a game mode designed to complement the Sea of Thieves adventure. It allows players to dive straight into on-demand competitive play with other crews for more action-focused encounters. Combining higher-stakes teamwork and strategy, The Arena provides a unique gameplay experience and a new way to enjoy the world of Sea of Thieves.

What is discord?

Discord is a free popular group chatting app, originally made to give gamers a place to build communities and talk.

Then join our Leduc Esports Discord 
Discord handles needs to be entered on your leduc.unitinggamers.com account as, username followed by #discord number (username#1234).

 

What kind of equipment do you need to play Esports? 

Some games will be console-based like PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or Xbox.  PC’s might also be an option for play.  Depending on the game, there can be the ability to have cross system play where others may be limited to one console vs. another.  These details will be included in the League and Tournament information so gamers know in advance.  Players might have their own special pieces of equipment like mouse and keyboards, game specific controllers, monitors, and headsets they use, but not necessary if you have the console gear.

The City of Leduc respects all members and participants, their diverse abilities, ages and desire to participate. Fair Play encompasses respect for the rules and/or equal treatment of all concerned; Fair Play is expected from all participants, these values for Fair Play participation are expected to be managed by the participants when possible and if necessary facility staff will make an effort to resolve issues as identified.
