Breakfast with the Guys yields great support for Riseup Society

Wednesday, December 6, 2017

The support of the Leduc region brought in roughly $18,000 in support of Riseup Society Alberta during this year’s Breakfast with the Guys fundraiser, held Nov. 1, 2017 at the Executive Royal Hotel.

“As this was my first official event as Leduc’s mayor, I’m incredibly pleased with the level of support we had in that room, and honoured to have Janet Riopel as our special guest speaker,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Riseup Society Alberta is a wonderful organization providing a much-needed service to our community to help those living with or leaving an abusive environment.”

Breakfast with the Guys focuses on gathering businesses and organizations together to educate community leaders on the effects of domestic violence in the Leduc region, and to support the local organizations that work with victims, recognizing that family violence doesn’t discriminate based on social, financial status, gender, age or culture. This year’s theme, Family Violence in the Workplace, shared valuable information to business leaders on the importance of covering family violence to their Violence in the Workplace policy; similar to the city’s policy of including family violence to its workplace policy.

“The success of this event is due to the combined efforts and support we receive from citizens and businesses within the Leduc region, along with city administration,” says Donna Brock, director of Family and Community Support Services. “Family violence is a human issue, not a gender issue and our goal each year is to bring community and business leaders together to collectively help address this societal issue as everyone has a role to play to help reduce the number of incidents in our community.”
