Breakfast with the Mayor creates family violence conversation

Wednesday, November 28, 2018

A total of $17,000 was raised during this year’s Breakfast with the Mayor fundraiser, held Nov. 6, 2018 at the Executive Royal Hotel. The event proceeds went to support two local not-for-profit organizations, Leduc and District Victim Services and Riseup Society, both of which work directly with victims of family violence.

“The Breakfast with the Mayor event demonstrates how powerful it is to come together and create conversation,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “On behalf of the City, I would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who joined us and donated to both incredible organizations. Your generosity will have a great impact on the lives of those who are struggling with family violence in our region.”

The Breakfast with the Mayor event aims to raise awareness and funds to help end family violence in Leduc. This year’s theme, Understanding the Complexities of Family Violence, was underlined through guest speaker Namrata Gill, who spoke fearlessly of her first-hand experiences with domestic violence and the lessons she has learned through her 18-year career with the Edmonton Police Service.

“Family violence can affect all aspects of a person’s life. It is important that we come together and discuss the realities of this complex issue,” says Donna Brock, Director of Community and Social Development with the City of Leduc. “The enduring support for this event has shown us that the leaders in our region are prepared to continue to work towards eliminating family violence from our communities.”

Through events such as Breakfast with the Mayor, the City of Leduc is dedicated to keeping our region safe by bringing awareness and community support to issues like family violence.
