City of Leduc announces mandatory vaccine requirements for all staff
In an ongoing effort to protect the health and safety of employees and residents as active cases of COVID-19 continue to climb, the City of Leduc has implemented new policies that will require all staff to be fully immunized by the end of November.
Two mandatory vaccination policies have been enacted for City staff: one policy specifically for Leduc Fire Services Staff, and the other for the remainder of City employees. All City staff will be fully immunized no later than Nov. 27, 2021. Both policies include a process for assessing individual accommodation requests for exceptional or protected circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
“The decision to implement these policies for the continued protection of our staff and community is one that City leadership agreed was necessary,” says City of Leduc Manager Derek . “We are responsible for the health and safety of our staff, and we have confidence that immunization against COVID-19 will provide the best protection against illness that we can offer.”
As an integrated fire services team where each member is a trained firefighter and paramedic, the separate policy for Leduc Fire Services staff was developed in accordance with Alberta Health Services’ mandate for the immunization of workers and contractors.
Prior to the announcement of the broader corporate policy, a voluntary survey was conducted where 75 per cent of City staff anonymously shared their vaccination status. The results of that survey indicated that more than 85 per cent of respondents were fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
