Fire Services introduces new public safety tool for city hydrants

Monday, April 29, 2019

HyMarker_RSweeney7_new.jpgNew to 2019, City of Leduc Fire Services will be using hydrant markers during their spring fire hydrant inspections throughout the city.

“Utilizing these markers in our community assists us in our efforts to enhance public safety by dramatically increasing hydrant visibility when every second counts,” says Deputy Fire Chief Bo Moore, with Leduc Fire.

Hydrant markers are reflective collars designed to go around the side discharge port, or inside cap, of a hydrant. Starting May 1, citizens may see first responders throughout the city installing these markers during hydrant inspections. All the markers are blue in colour.

“As this is our first year with the new hydrant markers, there are plans to expand this program into 2020 to include all hydrants within the City of Leduc, including those on private property as our way of increasing our service level to the community,” says Moore.

For more information about this program, please call Leduc Fire Services at 780-980-8475.
