Important notice for all travellers, snowbirds returning to Leduc

Thursday, March 26, 2020

Effective March 25, 2020, the federal government has issued a mandate that all travellers and snowbirds must self-isolate at home immediately upon return to Canada.

What does this mean for Leduc residents? Once you return to Canadian soil, you will be required to go straight home; no running errands, going for groceries, visiting a convenience store or seeing family and friends.

Self-isolation is mandatory for 14 days. For more information about self-isolation, click HERE.

This move by the federal government comes after several reports of citizens returning to Canada and not obeying the request to go directly home and isolate for two weeks.

This mandatory action applies to all travellers, whether crossing the border by land or returning abroad by air. However, these actions do not apply to those doing essential work to support Canada’s supply chain, such as truck drivers transporting goods.

The Province of Alberta also announced yesterday that violations of Public Health Orders, including this order to self-isolate, will be enforced with stringent penalties. Initial offences could result in fines of up to $1,000, with subsequent infractions receiving stiffer penalties.
