Leduc Begins Emergency Preparedness Week

Monday, May 8, 2023

Today, the City of Leduc began promotion for Emergency Preparedness Week (May 7-13) with a safety video from Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management Bryan Singleton stressing the importance of being prepared in the event of an emergency, and to remind residents about the open-air fire ban.

The City plans to publish content every day this week for residents and business owners to learn how to prepare in the event of an emergency, including building an emergency kit, how to keep pets safe during an emergency, what business owners should know in case there’s an emergency and they have to keep their staff and patrons safe, and lastly how to properly use a fire extinguisher.

“With multiple evacuations in counties and regions surrounding Edmonton and Leduc, residents need to be prepared in case Leduc has to issue an immediate evacuation,” said Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management Bryan Singleton. “Every minute is crucial in keeping yourself and your family safe during an emergency. It’s important to prepare when the risk is low, so you are ready to respond when the risk is high.”

The City and the province have many resources available to residents to learn how they can prepare for a multitude of emergencies. The province has also created short videos for residents to learn how they can remain safe throughout the year.
