Leduc residents invited to celebrate Canada Day

Thursday, June 17, 2021

The City of Leduc invites residents to celebrate Canada Day on July 1 by taking in a variety of fun community activities.

This year's plans include:

  • Regional Activity Booklet - download for fun family activities like colouring sheets, recipies, and more
  • Free take-home hot dog and s'mores kits - Pick-up available at the Gateway Family Church (4310 Black Gold Drive) between 3 - 5 p.m. on July 1. 500 kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a limit of one kit per household.
  • Travelling outdoor concert series: local folk-rock duo, River Poets - a 20-minute show will be played at five different stops throughout the afternoon. Find the schedule and stop nearest you.
  • High-flying fireworks display - enjoy the dazzling show from anywhere within 3 km of the garden plots at Telford Lake. Scheduled for 11 - 11:15 p.m. Residents are encouraged to watch from home if possible, or, if choosing a public viewing spot, to do so safely and distanced from other households.

We will also be pausing for a moment of silence at 2:15 p.m., in honour of the 215 Indigenous children recently discovered in a mass grave outside a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C., as well as those yet to be detected. We invite the community to pause with us to mourn this tragic loss.

In addition to the City's planned activities, there are a number of other events happening throughout Leduc on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day. Please visit www.leduc.ca/Canada to learn more.

Citizens are encouraged to enjoy the day's activities safely, and look out for one another's health by distancing, masking when appropriate, and sanitizing regularly.

Although Canada Day festivities look a little different again this year, we look forward to celebrating with everyone in the community.
