Mayor Bob Young celebrates youth leadership in Leduc

Thursday, October 29, 2020

Youth leaders in Leduc are being celebrated for their resiliency, hard work and contributions to the community through the city’s third annual #influencers awards. Nominations were accepted online earlier in the year, and all the awardees will be recognized with a package of local gift cards and a yard sign celebrating their award.

“As difficult as this year has been, one positive result is the light that has been shone on the strength, perseverance and spirit that epitomizes our residents of all ages,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “It’s truly an honour to celebrate these exceptionally deserving young people and celebrate their leadership values and the outstanding contributions they make to their homes, schools, social circles and community.”

Each year since 2018, the city has celebrated young community leaders in grades 9 through 12 with the #influencers awards. Nominations for this year’s awards began in February with plans for a celebration to have taken place in the fall. The original plans were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but city staff adjusted and came up with a new, physically distant approach to recognizing the nominees.

“We received so many tremendous nominations this year and were eager to applaud our #influencers in-person, but understandably plans had to be changed,” says Young. “While we can’t congratulate them the way we had hoped to, what remains is the deep pride we have in these remarkable young Leduc residents and their accomplishments. They truly are beacons of hope and optimism for our city’s future.”
