Message from the Mayor: City of Edmonton / Leduc County Annexation

Wednesday, December 28, 2016

Several weeks ago, I advised that I would be meeting with City of Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson and Leduc County Mayor John Whaley about being a full partner at the annexation discussion table.

I am pleased to announce that as a result of those conversations, the City of Leduc has been asked to represent our interests regarding whether the Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is included in the City of Edmonton’s final Annexation application with Leduc County. Specifically, if the EIA should remain in Leduc County or be annexed to the City of Edmonton. Determining the course of action with that will be done at the working committee and we are pleased to be able to share our perspective on this important issue.

In addition to the working group, the City of Leduc will be a partner when it comes to discussing joint planning and future collaboration around the EIA. We look forward to working with the negotiation facilitators on this piece.

These steps forward highlight the continued respect and collaborative spirit that exists between the City of Edmonton, Leduc County and the City of Leduc. We look forward to updating you as this work proceeds in the New Year.

As always, I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas when it comes to the Edmonton Annexation. For more information on the City of Leduc's position, email info@leduc.ca.
