Reimagine your block party this summer

Friday, July 24, 2020

Traditional block party BBQs and potlucks are not currently possible due to the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Although sharing a meal is a great way to bring people together, it’s not the only way! With a little bit of creative planning, a neighbourhood block party is still a great opportunity to safely meet and make new friends, and support others in your neighbourhood.

Consider hosting a virtual karaoke night or murder mystery party. Plan a block-wide scavenger hunt, chalk your block event or a block parade. It’s the perfect time to get imaginative!

“The ways in which we connect with others have changed, but engaging with our community remains more important than ever in these exceptional times,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Leduc Family and Community Support Services are happy to support citizens in organizing unique and fun block parties that support safe and healthy interactions with others while not compromising the public health protocols set by the province.”

Hosts of registered block parties will receive a $50 gift card to purchase any supplies they may need, including personal protective equipment and sanitizing supplies. Resources to help you develop creative ideas and plan your event are available at https://www.Leduc.ca/rockyourblock. We also encourage you to contact Family and Community Support Services at fcss@leduc.ca for more information.
