Road safety and back to school - it's all about children and youth

Monday, September 10, 2018

As students return to school Leduc RCMP would like to remind drivers to use extra precautions on the road and slowing down to 30 km/h in designated school and playground zones.

Parents picking up or dropping off children at schools are asked to follow all posted signage. Most school areas have No Stopping and No Parking zones that are to be kept clear for safe access by pedestrians, and to allow school buses or other school vehicles to safely unload student passengers.

Motorists are reminded that they must stop when approaching a school bus that is displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm whether you are approaching an oncoming bus or following one.

Motorists are reminded to avoid any type of distractions and stay alert with the increased foot traffic and to yourself extra time and try to leave earlier on your commute. Traffic is generally more congested during the first few weeks of September. Even if you don’t live in a school zone, your area might be affected.
