The splash is back at the Mix Family Aquatic Centre

The Mix Family Aquatic Centre at the Leduc Recreation Centre (LRC) is welcoming patrons back to new and improved facilities after being closed for renovations over the summer. The final step in upgrades that began in 2016, these renovations were part of $250,000 in federal funding the City of Leduc received through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

“Through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, the Government of Canada is investing in important community spaces like the Leduc Recreation Centre. The improvements to the recreational pool are creating an environment that encourages children and families to play and enhances the well-being of the entire community,” says the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and the Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada.

Improvements made to the facility focused on enhancing safety and amenities, particularly in areas such as the main pool basin and underground piping system, which have not been renovated since the centre was originally built in 1980. Additional enhancements include a new viewing area, updated acoustical controls, a more functional guest services desk and upgrades to shower and steam room spaces.

“The Mix Family Aquatic Centre is a hub of activity within the Leduc region,” says Leduc Mayor Greg Krischke. “It is part of our community’s identity and is a destination for sport, recreation and development. The contributions of the Government of Canada have helped us make sure residents and visitors alike can experience the centre’s benefits well into our city’s future.”

To celebrate the end of renovations, the Mix Family Aquatic Centre will host a grand re-opening on Saturday, October 14 from 2-5 p.m. The event includes formal opening ceremonies with greetings from Mayor Greg Krischke. Following ceremonies, the public is invited to enjoy special aquatic centre admission rates, with proceeds going to Jumpstart, as well as a range of family-friendly activities.
