Leduc RCMP charge two people for catalytic converter theft
On Oct. 12, 2022, around 10 a.m., members of the Leduc Crime Reduction Unit (LCRU) were conducting pro-active patrols in the parking lots at EIA when they observed two suspects cutting a catalytic converter off a vehicle. Officers arrested the suspects and seized a fraudulent firearms license, a sawzall and the cut catalytic converter.
Timothy John Stuparyk (36) a resident of Leduc County, Alta., was charged with the following:
- Theft under $5,000
- Illegal possession in Government documents
- Mischief under $5,000
Following a judicial hearing Stuparyk was released from custody. He was scheduled to appear in Leduc provincial court on Dec. 8, 2022.
Tyler Rae Nolan (26) a resident of Edmonton, Alta. was charged with the following:
- Theft under $5,000
- Mischief under $5,000
Following a judicial hearing Nolan was released to appear in Leduc provincial court on Nov. 10, 2022. Stuparyk and Nolan did not attend Leduc provincial court on their scheduled appearance dates and there is now a warrant for their arrest for failing to attend court.
Stuparyk is described as:
- 5’10” tall
- 174 lbs
- Brown eyes and brown hair
Nolan is described as:
- 5’9”
- 154 lbs
- Brown eyes and brown hair
Leduc RCMP would like to remind the public of the catalytic converter theft prevention program we introduced in partnership with the City of Leduc in December 2021. The program involves etching the last eight digits of the VIN onto the vehicle’s catalytic converter. The VIN serves as an identifier that will assist police in identifying the stolen part, should it get stolen. For more information on this program please visit https://www.leduc.ca/rcmp

Two people charged for break and enter to local business
On Dec. 13, 2022 at approximately 12:45 a.m., Leduc RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter in progress at a business in the area of Sparrow Drive in Leduc. Leduc RCMP members with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Services, attended the business and observed a suspect running through a ditch in an attempt to evade police. Following a short foot pursuit, the suspect was arrested. A second suspect involved in the break and enter was located and arrested a short distance away.
As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were charged:
Simon John Kurgan (33), a resident of Leduc, with:
- Break and enter to commit theft
- Obstructing a Peace Officer
- Mischief over $5,000
Branden Dwayne Land (26), a resident of Leduc, with:
- Break and enter to commit theft
- Mischief over $5,000
Following a judicial hearing, Kurgan and Land were released from custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2023 in Leduc provincial court.
Charges laid following mail theft investigation
Leduc RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (LCRU) have charged two people following investigation into theft from mail boxes in Leduc. On Nov. 24, 2022, LCRU identified two people using video surveillance image captures in relation to break-ins to mail boxes that occurred between Nov. 21, 2022 and Nov. 23, 2022.
LCRU with the assistance of the Leduc Drug Unit and General Duty members, executed a search warrant at a residence in Leduc. As a result, a large quantity of stolen mail and a stolen wallet were recovered. Police also seized break and enter tools and a small quantity of fentanyl.
Roger Cooley Mccann (41), a resident of Leduc, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Break and enter to commit theft (X2)
- Mischief (x2)
- Theft from mail under $5,000. (x2)
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Fail to comply with release order condition
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of a controlled substance - fentanyl
Following a judicial hearing, Mccann was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in Leduc provincial court on Dec. 15, 2022.
LCRU have also charged Lori-Anne Elissa Nixon (38), a resident of Leduc, with the following:
- Break and enter to commit theft
- Theft from mail under $5,000
- Mischief under $5,000
Leduc RCMP’s efforts to locate Nixon have been unsuccessful and they have obtained a warrant for her arrest for the above noted charges.
Nixon is described as:
- 5’1” tall
- 119 lbs
- Green eyes
- Black hair
