Help guide Leduc's environmental future
The City of Leduc is updating its Environmental Plan and seeking resident feedback to ensure it continues to reflect the community’s needs, priorities, and collective goals for the next decade.
Key areas the plan will focus on include:
- Waste (recycling, composting and Eco station)
- Water (water conservation and stormwater management)
- Air (pollution and air quality)
- Land (Wetland restoration, tree planting and naturalization)
- Light and noise (LED lights and dark skies)
- Energy and climate change (greenhouse gases, climate resilience and electric cars)
“Leduc is a proud environmental leader, and we want to protect and sustain the natural beauty surrounding us,” says City of Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “It’s important that we are always working to improve, and your feedback will help guide the future of this community for the next decade.”
Ways to provide input on the Environmental Plan:
- In person at VolunteerFest: Join us at VolunteerFest on Sunday, Sept. 10, at Stone Barn Garden in William F. Lede Park from 1-4 p.m.
- Online Survey: The survey will take 8-10 minutes to complete and will be available from Sept. 7-24, 2023.
- Public Pop-Ups: Watch for engagement opportunities at community spaces like the Leduc Library and Leduc Recreation Centre to have your say and vote for your environmental priorities.
The City’s first Environmental Plan was adopted in 2012 and guided 10 years of environmental stewardship by outlining key visions, principles, and actions. Over the last decade, the City has been successful in meeting the action items outlined in the original Environmental Plan – 80 per cent of action items have been accomplished, and 15 per cent more are underway. Accomplishments include the curbside organics program, expanding the multiway system to 84 km, installation of LED lights in all streetlights, and much more.
