Each year, the City provides eligible employees with a Health and/or Wellness Spending Account to support their overall well‑being.
Annual amounts
- Full‑time benefit‑eligible employees receive $750
- Part‑time benefit‑eligible employees receive $500
Amounts are credited on January 1 each year. Employees who begin employment after January 1 receive a prorated amount effective on their start date (for example, a full‑time employee starting on January 14 would receive $750 × 11/12 = $688).
Employees choose how to allocate their annual amount—to a health spending account, a wellness spending account, or a combination of both.
The health spending account complements the group benefits plan and can be used for eligible medical and dental expenses not covered by the group plan or provincial health care. Claims are non‑taxable.
The wellness spending account supports holistic health and wellness and can be used for eligible expenses related to physical, mental, and emotional health, career development, personal wellness, and quality of life. This may include items such as fitness equipment and activities, as well as family and pet care, and more. Claims are a taxable benefit.
*The health and wellness spending accounts do not apply to IAFF employees.
