The City of Leduc is committed to addressing climate change through innovative programs and community-driven initiatives as outlined by the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Action Plan.

With a focus on reducing emissions, fostering clean energy, and supporting residents in their sustainability efforts, Leduc is taking proactive steps to mitigate the impacts of our changing climate.

The plan aims to:

  • produce a cleaner, healthier community
  • save the city, residents and business money
  • increase community resiliency against future regulations and pricing
  • Mitigate climate risks

Understanding Our Changing Climate

Climate change is a global challenge that has direct local impacts, including:

  • Extreme Weather Events: Increased occurrences of flooding, heatwaves, and severe storms.
  • Environmental Changes: Impacts on ecosystems, biodiversity, and water resources.
  • Community Resilience: The need to adapt infrastructure and services to withstand climate-related challenges.

The City of Leduc recognizes the importance of reducing its carbon footprint while empowering residents and businesses to make eco-friendly choices.

As climate resiliency requires a collective effort, the City of Leduc and the surrounding region are partners in supporting the EMRB Climate Resilience Study.

How to get involved

We can all do our part to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Here are some ways to help you get started:

  • Upgrade your home by updating roof insulation, windows and seals around vents, doors, etc. Apply for financing through the Clean Energy Improvement Program to make energy-efficient and renewable energy upgrades
  • Make some small energy changes around the home:
    • Change to energy-efficient light bulbs
    • Unplug computers, TVs, and other electronics
    • Wash clothes in cold water
    • Install a programable thermostat
  • Borrow the City’s Energy Efficiency Kit from the Leduc Library
  • Sort waste properly into their respective bins
  • Reduce water consumption by using efficient appliances and fixtures
  • Be an environment steward – learn about the many programs residents can participate in to support the environment (Earth Hour, Arbour Day and Clean Air Day)
