Leduc City Council is the governing body of the municipal corporation and the custodian of its legislative powers.

The Municipal Government Act provides that councils can only exercise the powers of the municipal corporation either by bylaw or resolution. Bylaws are created as a way to address resident concerns, protect the environment, public health and safety, and maintain the community.
