General municipal elections are held every four years. Leduc voters elect one mayor and six councillors to a four-year term. City of Leduc elections are regulated by the City’s Election Bylaw and the Local Authorities Election Act.
The Offices of Mayor and Councillor are elected at-large. This means that our mayor and councillors represent the entire population of the City of Leduc, rather than a geographical ward as seen in larger municipalities like Edmonton or Calgary.
The trustee positions for our local school boards, Black Gold School Division (Ward 3) and St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division #38 (Ward 1) have been filled by acclamation. This means there were the same number of candidates nominated as there were positions to fill, and therefore no election is required to fill these seats.
