General municipal elections are held every four years. Leduc voters elect one mayor and six councillors to a four-year term. The mayor and councillors are elected at-large, meaning they represent the entire population of the City of Leduc rather than a geographical ward as seen in larger municipalities like Edmonton or Calgary.
When a vacancy occurs between elections, a by-election is held if there is more than 18 months before the next general election. If there are two vacancies, a by-election must be held unless it occurs more than 12 months before the next general election.
City of Leduc elections are regulated by the City’s Elections Bylaw and the Local Authorities Election Act.
