From paws to pedals to patios—do your part to keep summer safe for all. As the days get longer and warmer, we want to help everyone enjoy a safe summer season. Whether you’re out on our multiway paths, exploring our parks, or enjoying your backyard, everyone has a role in keeping our community safe.
A few important reminders for residents:
- Keep dogs leashed, unless in designated off-leash areas
- Always clean up after your pets – it’s your responsibility and helps keep our community clean for all
- Never leave pets in parked vehicles; even with windows cracked, temperatures rise quickly
Bike and multiway safety
- Cyclists, ride on the right and pass on the left—always alert others before passing with your bell. Learn more about how to ensure you’re wearing your helmet properly
- Pedestrians, stay aware of your surroundings and move to the right when you hear a bell signaling an approaching cyclist
- Whether walking, biking or rolling, please slow down and be courteous on shared paths!
Fire safety
- If using a firepit, ensure it meets the requirements of the Fire Services Bylaw, keep water nearby, and never leave the fire unattended or leave it to burn out on its own. Remember, fires are only permitted in parkland when using designated firepits at public park sites.
- Understand the difference between Fire Advisories, Restrictions and Bans, and what they mean for you. Keep an eye on Leduc.ca and the City’s social media channels for the current status.
- If you smoke, always dispose of cigarette butts in fire-safe containers—never toss them into planters or out your window while driving.
- While you’re out doing summer yardwork, consider taking steps to FireSmart your property. If you notice white fluff from cottonwood and poplar trees accumulating in your yard: wet it down, rake it up, and dispose of it in your green bin.
- Lithium-ion batteries can pose a fire hazard if stored at high temperatures; consult the manufacturer’s recommendations for proper storage.
Safe speeds
- Slow down and watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and children at play
- Respect speed limits, especially in residential areas, parks, and school and construction zones
- Driving at safe speeds saves lives and helps keep our neighbourhoods peaceful and safe
Let’s all do our part to keep Leduc safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone this summer!
