On Oct. 10, 2025, the City of Leduc partnered with the Leduc RCMP to carry out “Project Street Light”, a one-day collaborative initiative focused on enhancing public safety, supporting vulnerable residents, and strengthening community connection.

The project brought together members from Leduc RCMP, Leduc Enforcement Services, Leduc (FCSS) and the Leduc Parks department. Together, they combined proactive policing and enforcement efforts with compassionate outreach to foster a safe community and support residents in accessing the services they need.

Throughout the day, teams engaged directly with residents and businesses, patrolled public spaces, and offered information and assistance to those in need. Outcomes included:

  • More than 300 km patrolled by the RCMP bike unit and Enforcement Services, three bar walks, and three drone flights
  • Six life safety supply packages provided to individuals in need
  • Seven individuals connected to follow-up support services
  • Positive community engagement, including 21 Positive Tickets recognizing good choices and contributions
  • Five arrests and six warrants executed
  • $5,500 in fines, 29 violation tickets, and 37 written warnings issued
  • Three encampments cleared

The three key principles guiding Project Street Light included:

  • Street Safety and Enforcement: addressing public safety concerns and promoting order through coordinated efforts between police, bylaw and community partners.
  • Wrap-Around Services: linking vulnerable individuals to support such as housing, addictions, and mental health services.
  • Community Engagement: promoting visibility, proactive problem-solving, and direct engagement with residents and businesses to foster a safer, more livable community.

While Project Street Light was a single day event, the work it represents is ongoing. The City of Leduc and its partners continue to collaborate year-round on proactive safety initiatives, outreach programs and community engagement efforts, ensuring Leduc continues to be a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
