The Leduc RCMP and City of Leduc Enforcement Services, in collaboration with Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), are launching a new Integrated Community Safety Unit focused on increasing visibility, building relationships, and helping residents feel safe in public spaces.

Made up primarily of RCMP officers and Community Peace Officers, the unit will conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols to address behaviours that can make people feel uncomfortable or unsafe in public spaces.

FCSS Navigators will also support the team by helping connect individuals to appropriate services, resources, and community programs when needed.

In the Leduc RCMP’s 2026 Policing Priorities Survey, 73 per cent of respondents said that more foot and vehicle patrols, stronger community presence and increased enforcement would improve their confidence in local policing. The new Integrated Community Safety Unit responds directly to this feedback.

“Residents have told us they want to see more visible patrols and a stronger presence in the community,” says Inspector Kiel Samotej, Officer In Charge, Leduc RCMP. “This integrated team allows us to respond quickly, help people feel safe in public areas, and provide the right supports at the right time.”

Residents can expect to see the Integrated Community Safety Unit active in parks, on trails, downtown, and in other high-traffic areas throughout Leduc.

“People want to feel safe when they’re out in our community, whether they’re enjoying our parks and recreation amenities or supporting local businesses,” says Lars Hansen, Mayor of the City of Leduc. “This integrated approach helps us address concerns while building positive connections across Leduc.”

Supporting businesses through the Agent Status program

The unit will also engage with local businesses to introduce and encourage participation in the City’s new Agent Status program.

While most properties in Leduc are safe, some property owners and managers have indicated they would like additional tools to help address trespassing and encampment concerns when they arise.

This optional program allows eligible businesses to authorize enforcement officers to act on their behalf during trespassing incidents—even if they can’t be reached right away.

The public is encouraged to report any concerns directly to the RCMP and Enforcement Services:

  • Bylaw issues: call Leduc Enforcement Services at (780)-980-1537
  • Non-emergency incidents: call 310-RCMP or 310-7267, or report through the RCMP’s online crime reporting system
  • Emergency or crime in progress: call 9-1-1

The City of Leduc and Leduc RCMP prioritize a coordinated approach to community safety through education, enforcement, and emergency response, working together to support a safe and welcoming community for all.
