Types of maintenance

Road infrastructure

Roads, sidewalks, and multiways are essential to how people move through the city every day. Crews are dispatched to repair damage caused by weather or wear and tear. Ongoing maintenance supports safe driving, walking, and cycling, helps improve accessibility for all users, and extends the lifespan of transportation infrastructure across neighbourhoods.

Street sweeping occurs each spring and fall to remove seasonal debris from roads. Throughout the summer months, the City also conducts maintenance sweeping. This keeps streets clean and prevents debris from clogging storm drains. Residents can help by moving vehicles from the road to allow for efficient cleaning.

Snow Removal

Snow removal is an essential service focused on keeping roads, sidewalks, and pathways safe and passable during winter conditions. The City follows a priority system where main roads, emergency routes, and heavily trafficked areas are cleared first, followed by collector roads, and lastly, residential streets.

Temporary closure request

The City reviews road/sidewalk/lane temporary closures that are requested for different projects ranging from cement repairs to parades. Requests require a minimum of 14 business days.

Parks and green spaces

Parks and green spaces provide places to play, relax, and connect with nature. The City of Leduc maintains these spaces through routine mowing, weed control, and litter removal to create welcoming, safe and accessible public spaces while supporting long‑term environmental health.

Parks, green spaces and sports fields

The City regularly inspects and upkeeps over 50 parks and green spaces in the community, along with outdoor facilities to ensure they are safe and ready for use. Leduc is home to a variety of outdoor amenities ranging from soccer fields in summer to outdoor ice surfaces during the winter.

Naturalized areas and trees

Naturalized areas and trees play an important role in supporting environmental biodiversity in the community. Maintenance focuses on promoting healthy growth, controlling invasive species, and addressing safety concerns while allowing these spaces to develop naturally over time.

Weed and pest control

Managing noxious weeds and invasive pests helps protect public spaces, infrastructure, and ecosystems while supporting safe and enjoyable use of parks and green spaces. The City follows the Alberta Weed Act and an Integrated Pest Management Plan to ensure safe and proper management of weeds and pests while minimizing impacts to people, pets, and the environment.

Cemeteries and memorials Primary

The City oversees two cemeteries and offers commemorative programs and monuments as other meaningful options to honour and remember a loved one. Routine care ensures these spaces and monuments remain respectful, safe, and accessible.

Water services

Maintaining the City’s water network protects public health and ensures essential services are reliable year-round. Much of this work happens underground or out of sight, but it plays a critical role in keeping homes, businesses, and emergency services functioning safely.

Water supply and conservation

From water main and hydrant flushing to reactive water main repairs and water stations, crews work year-round to keep drinking water reliable and safe. Ensuring a sufficient supply of water for essential services and maintaining adequate drinking water for the community is critical.

When necessary, water demand measures are implemented in stages to conserve water.

Wastewater

The City’s sewer system moves wastewater safely through underground pipes and pumps to treatment facilities. Residents play a role by conserving water and responsibly disposing of waste to avoid clogging and damage to treatment systems

The RV Sani-station, located at the Eco Station, is open all hours of the day from May to September for RVs to properly dispose of wastewater.

Stormwater

The management of stormwater is essential to reduce the risk of flooding, and to conserve and protect water resources. Storm ponds permanently retain some water and allow for dirt and other pollutants to settle out before being discharged to Deer Creek or Telford Lake.
