The Leduc RCMP detachment is making a shift toward a more assertive and proactive policing approach in response to growing concerns from Leduc’s residents and businesses about public safety and disruptive behaviour in the community. The City’s Enforcement Services team of Community Peace Officers will work collaboratively with the RCMP to support these efforts.
The changes include:
- Increased police visibility and patrols in high-incident areas, such as public parks and downtown
- More focused enforcement efforts for offences such as theft, trespassing, illegal fires, drug use and possession, and a general disregard for City bylaws
- A stronger focus on holding repeat offenders legally accountable by issuing ticket violations, fines, or bans
The new approach balances firm enforcement with a human-centered lens that respects dignity and individual circumstances. While the changes demonstrate that repetitive disruptive and criminal behaviour will not be tolerated, both the RCMP and the City remain committed to providing compassion and care to those in need and to connecting vulnerable individuals with appropriate social services wherever possible.
