A Canada Post strike was announced on Sept. 25, which will impact the way special ballot requests can be submitted, and how special ballot packages will be distributed, in the 2025 municipal election.
As of Sept. 25, the City has received 17 requests for special ballots, all through the online application form. If you have mailed a request to the Elections Office, it has not and is not expected to be received before the election. You will be required to make a new request through one of the other methods listed below.
Apply to receive a special ballot
A special ballot is available for eligible voters who are unable to vote during advance voting or on election day. A request to vote by special ballot cannot be made by another individual on the eligible voter’s behalf.
To apply to receive a special ballot, you must submit a Request for Special Ballot Package to the Returning Officer by Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m. through one of the following methods:

- In-person at the Leduc Civic Centre at the reception desk
Important dates for special ballots
- Aug. 1: Applications open for special ballots
- Oct. 8–17 from 1–4:30 p.m.: Special ballot packages will be available for pick-up at the Leduc Civic Centre for those who have requested them
- Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m.: Application deadline for special ballots
- Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m.: Completed special ballots must be received by the Election Office no later than Oct. 20, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.

Completed special ballots must be received by the Election Office no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20 (Election Day). Any special ballot that is incomplete or received after the deadline will not be accepted or counted.
