Proactive fire safety essential to protecting community

The City of Leduc is now under a fire advisory due to the dry conditions and the increased fire hazard. Fires are still allowed in the City of Leduc; however, a restriction or ban may be called if conditions worsen.

Residents are asked to please use caution when burning. Proactive fire prevention activities are essential in protecting our community.

How residents can help prevent fires:

  • Maintain yards: prune trees, mow grass, clean roof and gutters, clear debris from under decks and away from buildings
  • Dispose of smoking materials, such as cigarette butts, in fire-safe containers
  • Clear debris away from the hot exhaust of vehicles, ATVs and yard equipment
  • Use extension cords only as temporary, short-term power sources and replace any cords that are frayed, cracked or overheating
  • Follow all manufacturer instructions for charging, storing and using batteries
  • Backyard firepit safety:
    • Ensure your firepit meets the Fire Services Bylaw requirements
    • Keep water nearby
    • Do not leave the fire unattended or allow fire to burn out on its own

When a fire ban, advisory, or restriction is issued in the City of Leduc, information is available at leduc.ca.
