This week, the City of Leduc is welcoming Curling Canada’s Leduc Wheelchair Curling Event, which is one of the few domestically hosted international wheelchair curling events available to Canadian athletes — and the only one in Western Canada.

From Jan. 11-17, 2026, at the Leduc Recreation Centre, more than 60 athletes from around the world will compete in mixed doubles and mixed fours events. The competition has drawn several top Paralympic teams and will be live streamed online throughout the week.

Few facilities in Canada can host a wheelchair curling event of this magnitude and offer the level of accessibility, ice conditions, live streaming, and local accommodations needed, making Leduc a special venue for athletes seeking meaningful, high‑performance competition. For many Canadian teams, this is one of the only chances all year to face international opponents on world‑class ice.

This event builds on a decade of para‑sport leadership in the community. Leduc has previously hosted the World Sledge Hockey Challenge (para-ice hockey), Blind Hockey tournaments, national wheelchair curling championships, and multiple para‑ice hockey events. Those moments have launched athletes to the Paralympics, returned players to the ice after life‑changing injuries, and even inspired local athletes to join Team Alberta.

As the wheelchair curling games continue throughout the week, the City of Leduc is once again showing why it is a trusted home for para‑sport: a place where all athletes are welcome and can compete at their best.
