The City of Leduc’s Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC) has been recognized with the 2025 Minister’s Award for Community Engagement or Livability for its exceptional work to improve traffic safety in the community. The award celebrates municipalities that make life better for residents through meaningful engagement and practical solutions.
As a Council, we’ve been proud to support the work of TAC – especially when it comes to improving accessibility and responding quickly to community concerns,” says Bob Young, Mayor of the City of Leduc. “Our work reflects what we can achieve when the City, its partners, and community voices come together – a safer, more connected Leduc.
Based on recommendations from the advisory board, the City of Leduc has implemented several initiatives including a speed reduction to 40 km an hour on neighbourhood streets in Leduc, crosswalk safety infrastructure on collector roads, updates to the traffic bylaw allowing for temporary parking bans for more effective snow removal and speed tables to reduce the speed and volume of traffic on Alton Drive.
As a cross-functional team, we bring together Engineering, Public Services, Transit, Fire, Enforcement, the RCMP and Council members to review public traffic concerns and recommend meaningful changes that will enhance community safety,” says Shawn Olson, GM, Infrastructure and Planning.
The Minister’s Awards for Municipal and Public Library Excellence are presented annually by the Government of Alberta to highlight outstanding initiatives that improve services, strengthen communities, and enhance livability in municipalities across the province.
