Each year, City Council is required to pass a balanced budget. Once the budget is approved, property tax rates are set to collect part of the revenue needed to deliver City programs and services. In 2026, property taxes make up approximately 46% of the City’s total revenue. The remaining revenue comes from government grants, utilities, service fees, rent, interest, and penalties.
The 2026 tax rate for residential properties is 0.006775, a decrease of 6.3% from 0.007233 in 2025. While the tax rate applies consistently across residential properties, individual property tax notices can vary. Notices are based on each property’s assessed value, which is determined by an independent, third‑party assessor. As assessed values change from year to year, individual tax amounts may increase or decrease—even when the tax rate has decreased.
In addition to municipal property taxes, property tax notices include a provincially set education property tax, which the City must collect on behalf of the Province of Alberta and send to the Province for public and separate education. In 2026, the City of Leduc is required to collect approximately $26.5 million from property owners for provincial education, an increase of about 13% from last year.
Property tax notices will be issued on May 15, and payments are due by June 30, 2026, unless you’re enrolled in the Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP).
