Sept. 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Leduc residents are encouraged to pause, reflect on the legacy of the residential school system and honour the survivors, their families and communities.

This is also Orange Shirt Day, to raise awareness of the multi-generational trauma caused by the residential school system.

The community is invited to engage, listen and learn:

  • In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Maclab Centre presents “New Blood – A Story of Reconciliation” on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. Tickets are by donation, starting at $5. All proceeds are donated towards local Indigenous-led arts and culture initiatives.
  • City of Leduc is a supporting partner of the Creating Hope Society’s ‘Calling Back our Spirit’ gathering events on Monday, Sept. 30.
  • Leduc Boys and Girls Club is hosting a ‘Creating Hope Lanyard Making’ for youth aged 12-17 on Sept. 19 from 6:30-8 p.m. (registration required).

Orange flags will fly in place of the City of Leduc municipal flag at City facilities from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, and on Sept. 30, all flags (federal, provincial and orange) will fly at half-mast. They will return to full mast on Oct. 1.

The Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day for anyone experiencing pain or distress as a result of their residential school experience: 1-866-925-4419.
