The Dr. Woods House Museum will re-open on a limited, seasonal basis beginning in summer 2026, providing public access to the historical collection during select weekday evenings.

Between June 23 and September 7, 2026, the museum will open:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
  • July 1, August 3, September 7 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The City’s existing cultural collections staff will welcome walk-in visitors during opening hours; no formal programming or bookings will be available.

Leduc City Council approved the seasonal reopening of the museum for summers 2026 and 2027 at its March 30, 2026, meeting. City Administration is now working through the specific details of the reopening; a service level adjustment, including budget impacts, is expected to return to Council in the coming months.

“Council chose an approach that balances the responsible use of taxpayer dollars with restored public access to a valued historic site,” says City of Leduc Mayor Lars Hansen. “This allows us to reopen Dr. Woods House Museum in a way that is practical and affordable for our community, while also maintaining stewardship of the house and the museum collection.”

In summer 2027, seasonal summer hours will be expanded with the support of summer students, and the museum will open following additional capital upgrades to support accessibility, such as accessible parking, ramps, and handrails.

Background:

In late 2023, the City of Leduc received ownership of the museum collection from the Leduc & District Historical Society—a community non-profit organization that leased the Dr. Woods House building from the city and ran the museum from 1983 to 2023.

Since assuming ownership of the collection, the City’s culture and heritage team has been meticulously and thoughtfully inventorying, cataloguing, digitizing and preserving the artifacts, along with the stories and legacies they represent. The museum has remained closed to the public during this time to allow staff to focus on the collection. Learn more about the collections work underway:
