Feedback from engagement sessions on the City of Leduc’s draft Leduc Land Use Bylaw from March to May 2026 showed strong support for thoughtful, balanced growth of Leduc neighbourhoods. Developers, industry stakeholders, and residents took part in drop-in sessions, a virtual session and a survey and to learn about the key changes in the draft bylaw. Their feedback will guide refinements to the Land Use Bylaw, which sets the rules for how land is used and developed across the city, before the final version is shared for review. What participants shared

  • Residents want new housing options, especially in growing areas, but also want to make sure established neighbourhoods keep their look, feel and character.
  • Residents want parking that works for everyday life and prefer to keep current parking requirements in place.
  • Residents strongly support having more places to gather and connect within neighbourhoods—like parks, recreation spaces, coffee shops, restaurants, shops and daycares.
  • Many residents support linking building size to street type and neighbourhood context to help new development blend in and feel consistent. They also agree with seeing taller buildings directed towards the Urban Centre.

Developer and industry participants emphasized the importance of balancing flexibility and innovation with practical considerations related to infrastructure, market realities, and development certainty.

“It was great to see people share what they care most about in the city and the neighbourhoods they live in” said City of Leduc Mayor, Lars Hansen. “That input is helping us shape growth in a way that reflects our community and what matters most to Leduc.”

Next steps

The City’s Land Use Bylaw renewal project will be extended into early 2027 to allow for additional feedback and refinement of the draft. There will be more opportunities for residents and stakeholders to review updates and share feedback before the bylaw is finalized. Residents can subscribe to the Land Use Bylaw newsletter for upcoming engagement opportunities and project updates.
