Major sporting events in Leduc do more than attract visitors — they energize the city, create opportunities for residents to come together, and drive significant economic activity. In 2025, high-profile events brought thousands of participants and spectators to Leduc, generating more than $4.2 million in total economic impact, according to the City’s 2025 Sport Tourism Economic Impact Assessment Reports.

“Sport tourism isn’t just about hosting competitions,” says Lars Hansen, Mayor of the City of Leduc. “It plays a vital role in our community’s growth — boosting economic activity, supporting small businesses, and showcasing Leduc as a vibrant place to visit and gather.”

Prepared by Sport Tourism Canada, the assessments analyzed the impact of the 2025 Alberta 55 Plus Provincial Summer Games and the 2025 Slo-Pitch National Championships. The reports measured direct, indirect, and induced impacts using federal, provincial, and city-level data.

Combined, the events generated:

  • More than $1.7 million in direct visitor spending
  • More than $1.3 million in net economic activity (GDP)
  • More than $4.2 million in total economic impact

The Alberta 55 Plus Provincial Summer Games welcomed more than 1,100 participants to Leduc from August 21–24, 2025. The event supported over $1.25 million in overall economic activity in Alberta, including over $1.04 million in the Leduc area. More than 87 per cent of respondents rated their experience as very good or excellent, and 57 per cent indicated they were likely to return to Leduc.

The Slo-Pitch National Championships were held over two weekends in August and brought teams from across Canada to compete in Leduc. Hosting the Championships supported over $2.1 million in overall economic activity in Alberta, including over $1.7 million in the Leduc area.
