A bold new strategy will guide the City of Leduc’s economic growth over the next five years, strengthening key industries, attracting investment, and creating new opportunities for businesses and residents.

Developed with input from local businesses, industry leaders, regional partners, and residents, the Economic Development Strategy prioritizes economic diversification and long-term sustainability. It focuses on three key directions:

  • Develop and support business growth and diversification
  • Build capacity to support growth
  • Market Leduc’s value to attract investment

The strategy leverages Leduc’s strengths and identifies six priority sectors for growth: energy, advanced manufacturing, transportation and warehousing, hydrogen, value-added agriculture, and tourism.

“We know a strong, diverse economy is essential to our city’s future,” says Bob Young, Mayor of the City of Leduc. “This strategy ensures we are making the right investments to attract new industries, support local businesses, and create a resilient, thriving community.”

Community Input Shaped the Strategy

Public engagement in September 2024 reinforced the need for economic diversification and strategic development. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of attracting businesses that complement Leduc’s unique advantages while also enhancing quality of life.

“The feedback we received helped shape a strategy that truly reflects our community’s vision,” says Tara de Munnik, Manager of Economic Development at the City of Leduc. “By focusing on high-potential sectors and ensuring we have the right infrastructure, workforce, and business supports in place, we are setting Leduc up for long-term success.”
