In May and June, the City of Leduc will be mowing and maintaining previously temporary naturalized areas in Doris Smith Park, Railroad Park and Evans Park to help young trees grow. Crews will be cutting back grass around the young trees so they can get more sunlight and nutrients from the soil. Work will continue throughout the summer based on weather and operations.

Each year, the City of Leduc plants hundreds of saplings in grassy spaces to sustain a healthy and livable community. These areas are left to naturalize to protect the saplings until they mature. Once the trees are strong and healthy, the area can be reclaimed into green spaces for the community.

Please help protect our new trees by leaving them undisturbed and giving crews plenty of space to work safely. Healthy trees help clean the air, give shade on hot days, and support wildlife. As these trees grow, they will help make parks and neighbourhoods greener and more comfortable for everyone now and for years to come.
