Ella Barkman

Recipient of the 2025 Athletic Achievement Award, Ella Barkman is an accomplished equestrian athlete whose dedication, sportsmanship and passion have brought recognition to the City of Leduc on both provincial and international stages. A lifelong Leduc resident, Ella discovered her love for horses at age nine when she joined a local 4H Light Horse Club. Since then, she has grown into a respected competitor, mentor and ambassador for the equestrian community.

Over the past several years, Ella has earned numerous provincial and local awards through 4H competitions, saddle club events and agricultural fairs. In 2024, Ella was named Reserve Amateur Provincial Champion and captured the overall L3 Amateur Division title at the Cross National Working Equitation Cup in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, competing against adult riders from Canada, the United States and Australia. In 2025, Ella was the only local rider selected for the prestigious Calgary Stampede Showrider Team. Ella’s most memorable achievement to date is entering the Calgary Stampede grandstand with her Arabian horse to the cheering of 20,000 spectators.

Ella hopes to pursue a career in agriculture while continuing to grow and learn as a rider. Known for her leadership and exceptional horsemanship, Ella continues to inspire fellow riders while proudly representing Leduc with determination, talent and integrity.
