Road Overlays

A road overlay adds a new layer of asphalt on top of an existing road. This maintenance process is one of the most effective ways to extend the life of a roadway without doing road reconstruction. An overlay restores the road to a smoother driving surface and protects the road from future damage.

Road overlay projects are shorter than a reconstruction but still require some short-term disruption. Watch for and follow the posted signage notifying motorists about upcoming traffic disruptions.

  • South Park Drive, including 43A Avenue and 43B Avenue, between Black Gold Drive and 41A Avenue
  • 43B Avenue and 44A Street
  • 43 Avenue between South Park Drive and 42 Street
  • 42B Avenue

Construction Project - South Park

Date Status
July 30 Concrete removals are repairs are scheduled for the week of August 4. Residents affected by concrete removals will have notices delivered.
Aug. 5 Concrete removals have been completed, crews will begin forming and placing the new concrete.
Aug. 13 New concrete is schedule to begin being poured August 13, paving is tentatively schedule for the beginning of September.
Aug. 19 The majority of concrete work has been completed, with some remaining locations scheduled for later this week.

Road overlay work will occur on:

  • Caledonia Drive between Munn Way and Campbell Road
  • Douglas Lane and Douglas Court

Construction Project - Sparrow Drive

Date Status
May 15, 2026 DeFord Contracting Inc. to begin construction on May 19, work during the first week will mostly be concrete repairs on Sparrow Cr., from south to north intersections with Sparrow Dr. Periodic traffic interuptions will be necessary including lane closures. Access to business will be maintained at all times.
June 18 Work is now complete on Sparrow Drive and Sparrow Crescent.
July 9 Work is scheduled to begin on the QEII off-ramp onto Sparrow Crescent tentatively the week of July 20. The exit ramp will be temporarily closed during this work.
July 31 Closure of the QEII off-ramp has been extended to Monday, Aug. 10.
Aug. 19 Work is now complete on the QEII off-ramp and has been reopened.

Road overlay work will occur on: 65 Avenue between the rail crossing and 45 Street. A new right turn bay will be added to the eastbound lane at the 65 Avenue and 45 Street intersection to turn southbound onto 45 Street.

Construction Project - 65 Ave

Date Status
June 18, 2026 Contractor to begin construction of the southbound right-turn lane at 45 Street on Monday, June 22. Eastbound traffic on 65 Avenue will be reduced to one lane from the train tracks to 45 Street from June 22 to July 3. Milling/paving/line painting will occur from July 7 to July 15, traffic patterns will periodically be reduced to one lane in each direction between the train tracks and 45 Street.
July 9 Contractor will be milling and paving from July 13 to 17, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Traffic patterns will periodically change during this time and reduced to one lane in each direction between Sparrow Drive and 45 Street.
July 30 Paving and line painting completed. New turning lane still closed, pending landscaping - delayed due to wet ground.
Aug. 19 Topsoil and seeding completed and turning lane opened. Rocks to be placed around culvert for drainage in the coming weeks.

Date Status
Aug. 19 Concerete repairs started last week and will be completed this week. Multiway reconstruction scheduled for next week, right-turn lane onto 50 Avenue will be closed starting next week Monday.

Road overlay work will occur on:

  • 50 Street between 50 Avenue and 59 Avenue
