The City of Leduc is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents during extreme weather events.

To help keep all in the community safe, the City’s extreme weather plan is activated during times of extreme heat, extreme cold, and poor air quality. This includes the availability of public buildings (the Civic Centre and the LRC) for temporary daytime reprieve, as well as the support of the City of Leduc’s FCSS team.

Weather conditions are monitored using The Weather Network. The following conditions prompt the activation of the extreme weather plan:

  • Extreme Cold: the winter temperature drops to -20°C with windchill for three consecutive days.
  • Extreme Heat: the summer temperature hits +29°C for three consecutive days.
  • Poor Air Quality: the air quality activation score is seven or higher for two consecutive days.
