Referendum signs may start to appear in Leduc as Alberta prepares for the province-wide referendum on Oct. 19, 2026. We understand some residents could have questions about the City’s role or position.
Our role is to administer municipal responsibilities within the Referendum Act and Election Act; notably however, the legislation prohibits the City from regulating referendum signage through bylaw or Council resolution. We will monitor and address public safety concerns related to signs that create hazards or interfere with public infrastructure (e.g., impeding traffic and pedestrian walkway sight lines).
The City of Leduc does not have a position on referendum questions or referendum advertising. Our work is grounded in focusing on local priorities such as public safety, infrastructure, recreation, and community wellbeing.
Constitutional issues such as Alberta’s relationship with Canada are being considered at the provincial level, and all Albertans will have the opportunity to voice their perspective through the democratic process. This is a question every individual has the right to answer, without influence from the municipality or public officials.
