The sound of pipes and drums filled the Leduc Civic Centre, setting a ceremonial tone for the official swearing-in of the newly elected City Council.

The ceremony was held in Council Chambers at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, where the community and invited guests joined to celebrate this important milestone in Leduc’s civic life.

Each council member was individually sworn in, taking an oath to diligently and faithfully serve the community to the best of their abilities. Following the ceremony, Council held its organizational meeting to set the council meeting schedule for the year, confirm the deputy mayor rotation, and appoint members to the City’s various boards and committees.

Welcoming new leadership

This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the city. The council, who will serve a four-year term, is led by Mayor Lars Hansen who has previously served eight years as a city councillor.

Joining Hansen are two re-elected councillors (with a combined 19 years on council) and four newly elected members, bringing together a blend of experience and fresh perspectives to guide the work ahead.

The evening served as a reminder of both the responsibility and privilege of public service. The new council now begins its work, focusing on budget deliberations and updating the City’s strategic plan.
