Like so many across Canada, I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic shootings in Tumbler Ridge. Our hearts are heavy as we reflect on the lives lost and the families and friends whose worlds have been forever changed.

On behalf of our community, I extend my deepest condolences to the victims’ loved ones and to all those who are grieving. No community should have to endure such violence.

Behind every headline are people — parents, children, friends, coworkers — whose absence will be profoundly felt. I hope those most affected find comfort in the support of their community and in the compassion being shared across the country.

Today, our City flags have been lowered to half-mast in recognition of this heartbreaking loss. It is a small but meaningful gesture of respect and remembrance.

We stand with the people of Tumbler Ridge. We mourn with you and hold you in our thoughts as you begin the difficult days ahead.

Tragic events can affect each of us differently. If you are struggling or feeling overwhelmed, please consider reaching out for support through the Mental Health Distress Line; phone (780)-482-4357 (HELP).
