Updated July 21: Leduc City Council’s statement was shared yesterday after the initial news of Jayden Dalke’s passing. Its purpose was to acknowledge the loss felt by members of our community and extend condolences to those grieving. It was not intended to comment on the circumstances surrounding the collision.

As more information has become available, our hearts are with everyone affected by this tragedy. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and loved ones of Bhishma Rajyaguru, who also lost his life, and to all those whose lives have been forever changed by this devastating event. We recognize that this tragedy has deeply impacted many people, both here in Leduc and beyond, and we encourage our community to respond with compassion and care for all those who are grieving.

Jayden Dalke was born and raised in Leduc, where he discovered his love of football with Leduc Minor Football before continuing his athletic journey with the Leduc Composite High School Tigers. From those early days, he worked tirelessly to achieve his dream of playing in the Canadian Football League, ultimately becoming a Grey Cup champion. While our community celebrated his accomplishments on the field, those who knew Jayden will remember him for his character, leadership and genuine care for others.

In 2023, City Council was proud to recognize Jayden with a Leduc Achievement Award in honour of his accomplishments and the pride he brought to our community. He represented Leduc with humility and integrity and inspired young athletes to believe that hard work, perseverance and staying true to your values can take you far.

Jayden’s passing is a heartbreaking loss that will be felt across our community. At times like these, we are reminded that no matter where our hometown heroes travel, they will always be part of the Leduc family. Many knew him as a teammate, a classmate, a neighbour or a friend, and our hearts are with everyone mourning his loss.

On behalf of our community, we extend our sincere condolences to Jayden’s family, the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization, his teammates and everyone whose lives he touched. He will be remembered with great pride, and he will be deeply missed.
