Erika Hawes
I am most proud to have served on the Leduc Youth Council for the past five years, including two years as the Chair, and two years as the Vice Chair. Throughout this time, I facilitated meetings, met with other community groups, and mentored other Council members. Some of my most memorable experiences throughout these terms included giving the address at the City of Leduc’s Pride Flag raising, emceeing VolunteerFest, supporting in the creation of the Influencers Award and Youth Ambassadors program, connecting with other local youth groups, and attending countless community events.
As I move into my future post-graduation from university, I am working on integrating volunteerism into my new reality of working full time. I hope to continue to contribute to causes and organizations within my community that support the most vulnerable and uplift the voices of the underrepresented. With the passion I feel for community groups I see myself contributing to in the future, I would not be surprised if I were to fall into a leadership role. As the older sister and friend of folks with disabilities, I am particularly passionate about advocating and participating in causes that contribute to the inclusion of all people in all spaces. All people deserve to be a part of a community where they feel valued and respected, and that is a value I bring into all my pursuits.
