The City of Leduc has completed a Growth Management Study (GMS) as part of ongoing work to plan for long-term growth and inform discussions related to annexation.

The study examines how much land Leduc will require to support population and employment growth over the next 50 years and evaluates where future growth can be accommodated in a responsible and efficient way.

Leduc has experienced strong and sustained growth over the past several decades, with recent growth meeting or exceeding previous projections. The study confirms that land within the City’s current boundaries alone will not be sufficient to meet long-term needs.

Based on technical analysis, the study identifies:

  • The total amount of land required to support projected growth through is 3,584 hectares;
  • 1,375 hectares of developable land is available within current city boundaries;
  • 2,209 hectares of developable land is required beyond the existing boundary; and
  • A GMS recommended annexation area, which is smaller and more focused than what was originally proposed.

No final decisions have been made. The Growth Management Study is one of several inputs that will inform negotiations between the City of Leduc and Leduc County, and the City’s annexation application to the Land and Property Rights Tribunal.
